Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Womxn’s Equal Pay Day
April 7th, 2025
AANHPI womxn earn only 83 cents for every dollar paid to a white, non-Hispanic man
AANHPI Womxn’s Equal Pay Day is the approximate day and annual reminder of the persistent wage gap between men and womxn—specifically today between AANHPI womxn and white, non-Hispanic men.
The National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum, the only multi-issue, progressive community organizing and public advocacy organization for AAPI womxn and girls in the U.S., found that that many womxn experience much larger wage gaps, particularly Southeast Asian and Pacific Islander womxn. For example, Tongan women earn only 59 cents for every dollar earned by white, non-Hispanic men.

We Should Care Because…

The wage gap for AANHPI womxn is a loss of $475,920 of lifetime earnings, meaning they must work until age 67 in order to catch up to white men’s career earnings at age 60.

These disparities are not only unjust, but also harmful to our economy, hampering opportunities for our AANHPI communities.

Asian American women are 1.4 times as likely to hold a bachelor’s degree as White men, so why do they make less?
