The Reproductive Justice at UC Irvine project’s purpose is to expand reproductive justice within the UCI community through education, programs, and resources. The Womxn’s Center for Success and a Campus as a Living Lab undergraduate Reproductive Justice Intern oversee and execute research and develop and execute programming to educate the UCI community on reproductive issues and topics in order to work towards justice and equity on campus. This project aims to influence a comprehensive, collaborative, intersectional approach to reproductive justice on campus.

The Reproductive Justice at UCI project is made possible through funds from the Confronting Extremism Grant through the Office of Inclusive Excellence.

Topics include, but are not limited to, Sexual Transmitted Infection (STI) Prevention, Birth Control/Contraceptives, and Abortion Care. In addition to topical knowledge and with the help of campus parnters, students learn about the relevant on-campus and community resources related to the dialogue.

Reproductive Justice, Campus as a Living Lab, Internship

Through the project funding and the collaboration of the Campus as a Living Lab program at the Sustainability Resource Center, the Womxn’s Center for Success has been able to provide two year long student involvement and employment opportunities for undergraduates on campus. A 8-12 hour a week internship allows our intern to assist in the important program planning for the project, assist with research and data analysis, and create comprehensive communication campaigns about current reproductive health resources available to students on campus.

Guided by the supervision of the Womxn’s Resource Center Director and Program Coordinator, our Reproductive Justice student intern has experienced valuable mentorship and developed invaluable community connections.

On-Campus Reproductive Justice Research

Through the thoughtful guidance of campus partners and the Student Affairs Director of Assessment, the project created and executed a campus-wide survey to research what womxn’s needs are on campus in regards to womxn’s health as it relates to reproductive justice. With over 400 respondents, results will inform the Reproductive Justice Task Force on how to improve and add resources on-campus to meet current student needs.

The full report will be coming soon for public review.
